NFPA RATINGS : Health: 1; Flammability: 1; Reactivity: 0 STABILITY : stabilised (with Butylated hydroxytoluene) PTMEG is Stable under ordinary conditions. GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS Polyether segments in polyurethane provide soft and elastic polyurethane.
Polytetramethylene Ether Glycol (PTMEG) and p,p-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate
(MDI) are the main raw material of Spandex, elastic synthetic fiber. PTMEG,
produced by cationic polymerization of tetrahydrofuran, is a
waxy solid at room temperature. It is insoluble water and aliphatic hydrocarbons
but soluble in alcohols, esters and ketones, aromatic solvents, and chlorinated
hydrocarbons. Solubility will decrease if molecule weight increases. Molecule
weight range of 1,800 - 2,000 PTMEG are used in Spandex production. PTMEG is
also used in polyurethane elastomers, polyester, and polyamide production.
